Points for Attention in Guasha Therapy

Points for Attention in Guasha Therapy
During and after guasha, local sweat pores open and miliary cutaneous bleeding appears. This is a process through which malignant influences are dispelled and the genuine qi is slightly consumed. For the purpose of strengthening the genuine qi to dispel harmful influences and increase the treatment effect, therapeutic scraping should be applied in a proper environment, with suitable manipulation and for the proper time to prevent dizziness caused by scraping.
- 1. Avoid Wind and Keep Warm During Therapeutic Scraping
When the indoor temperature is low, the exposed parts of body should be as few as possible. In summer, when the temperature is high, scraping should not be conducted in front of a fan or in a current air. If wind or cold pathogens attack the exposed skin with opened sweat pores, they will enter the body. In that case, not only will the therapeutic effect be impaired, but a new ailment might result.
- 2. Drink Warm Water After Scraping
Bodily fluids are consumed partly during scraping because of the opening of the sweat pores. Drinking a cup of warm water after guasha can replace the water and promote the metabolism as well. (continue reading…)
Holographic Acupoint Areas Commonly Use in Guasha Therapy

Holographic Acupoint Areas Commonly Use in Guasha Therapy
The holographic acupoint areas on the head, back, waist, chest, abdomen and limbs are the most commonly use in guasha therapy.
The holographic embryos are distributed in the cervix vertebrae, thoracic vertebrae, lumbar vertebrae and sacral vertebrae. They correspond to the organs of the head and face, thoracic cavity, abdominal cavity and pelvic cavity, respectively.
For the purposes of treatment, first find the tenderest point by pressing and rubbing the selected area. Then, with this point as the center, scrape the Governor Vessel ( GV ) , Bladder Meridian within the holographic acupoint area limits and the Jiaji ( Ex-B ) acupoint.
To treat diseases of the stomach, guasha is applied to the heart area of the back, the upper abdomen, the cutaneous regions of the large intestine in the middle of the lower arm and the stomach meridian, and the spleen meridian in the middle of the leg. (continue reading…)

Guasha Methods and Procedure for Different Parts of the Body
The guasha methods are determined by the anatomical features and the procedure is determined by the conditions of disease.
1. Guasha Methods for Different Parts of the Body
- Head – as the head is covered by hair usually there is no need for a lubricator. In order to intensify the effect, a thin scraping plate or corner of the plate can be used to scrape 30 times until there is a feverish feeling in the scalp. Scrape with a plate corner from front to back or from upper to lower parts.
Side of the head: scrape with the shorter edge of the plate from Touwei ( S8 ) and the hairline above the ear backward to the hairline at the nape. ( See diagram )
Vertex of the head: Scrape from Baihui ( GV20 ) to the hairline on the forehead from left to right or vice versa. ( See diagram ) (continue reading…)

Method of Holographic Meridian Guasha Therapy
Understanding Holographic Meridian Guasha Therapy comprehensively and objectively is essential for bringing its advantages into full play. Here, you will be introduced to the factors which may influence the effects of this therapy.
Scraping Materials
These consist of scraping plates and lubricators. In ancient times, spoons, bronze coins, tender bamboo and porcelain fragments with smooth edges were used as guasha tools, and sesame oil, water and alcohol were used as lubricators. Now they are rarely used because they have no intrinsic medicinal efficacy. Materials used today have medicinal efficacy and no side-effects. (continue reading…)

Guasha Therapy thru Holographic and Meridian Points
The word “holography” originates in physics and signifies “whole information” (information referring to the concrete expression of objective things) . In 1948 a new photographic technique was invented in which any part of a picture contained all the information of the complete plate. This is known as holographic phenomenon.
This phenomenon is universal in nature. The phenomenon that every part of an organism contains holistic information is a general bio-holographic law.
The book Holographic Biology, written by Zhang Yingqing, approaches the subject from the angle of biological embryo development. Zhang argues that an organism comes from a zygote (in the course of sexual reproduction ) or a primitive cell ( in the course of asexual reproduction ). When the cell splits, each chromosome containing hereditary information is reproduced into two identical chromosomes, which a re further divided into body cells, all containing genes identical to the primitive zygotes of the original cell. Further splitting under holistic controls and requirements leads to the body cells forming local organs. Every organ is different in shape and function, and is uniquely combined to form a new organism. In organisms every cell, organ and part contains the same development mechanism and genes as the original embryo. Zhang regards this relatively independent part in each organism as a “holographic embryo. “ For example, the head, ear, nose eye, hand, foot, etc. , are all holographic embryos.
